Legon student in strange death; police investigate

Legon student in strange death; police investigate

A19-year-old student of the University of Ghana, Legon, has died under strange circumstances at the Pentagon Hostel at Legon at dawn of last Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Oheneba Kofi Nti-Boateng, a Level 100 Bachelor of Science Administration student, was said to have died from a fall after he had joined his friends in Room 205 on Block B of the Pentagon Hostel for a chat after socialisation at Block A from 9p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011; to 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 17,2011.

Five friends of the deceased, whose names were given as Silas Betrant, Augustine Mensah, Mark Odamo, Akwasi Apaw-Bimpeh and Yaw Twene, have been arrested by the police to help in their investigations.

In their caution statements, the friends maintained that although they were with him in the room before he fell, they did not know what actually happened to him.

The Legon Police have launched a full scale investigation into the incident to determine whether Oheneba died as a result of the fall or otherwise since, according to doctors' initial report, the deceased did not sustain any head injuries from the supposed fall.

Second, the major injury he sustained was on the shoulder.

Again, according to the Legon Police, Oheneba did not fall from the fourth floor or fifth floor but from the first floor, a situation which ordinarily should not have resulted in death.

According to the crime Officer of the Legon Police, ASP Emmanuel Basintale, the police were baffled by the turn of events and were waiting for the postmortem report to assist the police to determine the actual cause of death.

He said on Thursday, they received a report from the sister of the deceased, Ms Abigail Nimako, that the family had information from the friends of Oheneba Kofi Nti-Boateng that he had fallen down from the balcony of one of the hostels and died as a result.

He said the police proceeded to the scene and investigations conducted so far had revealed that the incident occurred about Friday dawn and prior to that Oheneba Kofi Nti-Boateng a resident of Block C, attended a drinking party organised by one of his friends on Block A.
After the party, the student joined his friends in Room 205 and stayed there for a while before he decided to retire to his room.

According to the police, shortly after coming out of the room onto the balcony, his friends said they heard a big bang, an unusual noise which prompted them to rush out of the room to find out what had happened.

To their shock and disbelief, they found Oheneba Kofi Nti-Boateng had fallen to the floor and so they quickly organised to rush him to the Legon Hospital for treatment but he was transferred to 37 Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The body of Oheneba Kofi Nti-Boateng has been deposited the mortuary of the 37 Military Hospital awaiting autopsy while investigations continue.

“Samini is fine” after car accident on Sunday

Samini

Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Emmanuel Samini was on Sunday morning treated and discharged from hospital after a seemingly serious car accident he encountered on his way from a musical concert performance.
Samini was returning from the Ghana Trade Fair Centre where he had purportedly stolen the show at the maiden Ghana Music and Food Festival held over the weekend.

“At about 5am”, Samini said, “I lost control of the steering wheel after an animal - a dog, I believe - crossed the road from nowhere resulting in my car veering off the road and crashing a gutter”. The incident occurred near Exhibition Junction at Dansoman in Accra.
Samini was immediately rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital at 5:25am where he was immediately treated and discharged on Sunday.

Prelim medical assessment and report revealed that Samini sustained minor injuries when his head smashed the windscreen. “His seat belt worn at the time obviously reduced the impact and prevented him from being thrown out of the car”, a Samini Music rep told Hi Newspaper Sunday afternoon.

“I thank God for this big miracle, considering the nature of the accident. I was lucky doctors from various departments – about seven of them - had to cease their activities to attend to me. I’m very grateful to them and thank God for this intervention.
"I want to use this opportunity to assure my fans that I’m quite fine now, and ask that they pray for me continually because it is totally due to their unceasing prayers that have kept me alive today,” Samini said.

Though he’s been discharged, Samini is still been monitored by his doctors. He is expected to return to the Hospital for check-up at 10am today Monday, October 31, 2011.

Presbyterian Church Ordains First Gay Minister

(Reuters) - The Presbyterian Church (USA) ordained its first openly gay minister on Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin, three months after lifting its long-standing ban on homosexual clergy.

Scott Anderson, 56, was ordained minister at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in front of a jubilant congregation.

"It was a big day for me and also for the Presbyterian Church," Anderson said in a telephone interview.

"It was very healing for me and for many people there. It was very celebratory. Presbyterians don't cheer very often, but there was some cheering," Anderson said.

Anderson, who years ago had been rejected by members of his congregation at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, California, left the ministry in 1990. He has been with his partner, Ian MacAllister, for 20 years.

"I never thought the day would come in my life time when the Presbyterian Church would change its mind about ordaining gays and lesbians," he said.

Since leaving the ministry, Anderson had remained active in the church. He began the process of returning to the ministry five years ago. The Presbyterian Church in July changed its constitution to allow openly gay and lesbian ministers.

"It just so happened that I was the first in line, I didn't intend to be the first," Anderson said. "What a great privilege and honor and humbling to be the first."

Anderson said he believes his ordination reflects a cultural shift throughout organized religion and public policy in the United States.

"Institutional religion has not always been a helpful conversation partner with the wider culture and my hope and prayer is that, with this action of the Presbyterian Church, we will increasingly become a more constructive player in the wider cultural discussion about gays and lesbians," he said.

Prophet predicts two prez aspirants will die before election 2012

A prophet with the Christ Adventist Church, Apostle Addo Agyekum has predicted that two presidential aspirants will die before the 2012 elections.
According to him, the prophecy was revealed to him by God as a warning to Ghanaians to change from their evil ways so the prophecy can be reversed.
Apostle Addo Agyekum, who was speaking on Nyame Abode Ye Hu programme on Adom FM Thursday, disclosed that one of the candidates will die in an accident while the other will die from a chronic ailment.
He stated that the death of the two presidential candidates will force the Electoral Commission to postpone the general elections which will cause tension, may result in armed conflict and the death of several people.
Apostle Agyekum said Wednesday’s devastating flood was an initial warning and reminder from God that Ghana has sinned against him and needs to return to him and ask for forgiveness.
He warned of more disasters if Ghanaians do not amend their ways. “We will experience another devastating flood in January and that will be the beginning of more serious floods to come in the rainy season of 2012,” he said.
He was quick to add that God has offered Ghana time to amend its ways and declare a stand on homosexuality and other social vices that are detestable to Him.
Apostle Addo Agyekum, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Tete Atempong Herbal and Prayer Centre said he plans to meet the President to inform him of the prophecy.
“I will do it when the time comes and I don’t care if the security officers will beat me, I will present it to the President at God’s own appointed time,” he said.
The revelation is just one of the many predictions by men of God concerning the upcoming general elections.
