IEA Prez Debate: Prez Mahama Outlines Plans To Tackle Unemployment

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday outlined some plans that government has initiated to reduce the unemployment programme in the coming years.

He said “the first and most important step is to increase skills training to make more Ghanaian youth employable and that is why we are empowering the Vocational and Technical Sector to provide such skills, rather than concentrating government alone to provide jobs.”

President Mahama who was contributing to the question; ‘what three steps he would take up to reduce unemployment ‘in the IEA Presidential debate in Tamale, said unemployment had assumed a global dimension and needed a global approach.

He attributed the economic recession in European Union Countries and other economic disturbances to unemployment and stated that government would turn the National Youth Employment Programme to Skills training programmes for the youth to develop entrepreneurial skills to become employed and employers of others.

He said government had already equipped laboratories of the Takoradi Polytechnic to train the youth in oil and gas exploration and exploitation to create adequate manpower resource to the industry.

President Mahama said government had also introduced the Young Enterprise Programme where the youth would be trained to gain employable skills that would empower them to develop enterprises to employ more others to reduce the unemployment rate.

He said under the four years of Presidents Mills and Mahama administration, more employment skills had been acquired through the introduction of more modules of the National Youth Employment programme and would continue to chart that path to drastically reduce the incidence of unemployment.

Koku Anyidoho's New Job

Anyidoho
Defunct Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho has rubbished reports that he has been rendered redundant at the Osu, Castle since the untimely death of President John Atta Mills.

He insists that he is still very much at post and his new job at the presidency is to ensure that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo loses the December general elections.

There have been reports that staffers of the late President Mills have been rendered redundant at the Osu Castle under the current President Mahama’s administration.

However in a quick rebuttal, the acerbic tongue politician stated emphatically on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen political discussion program that he is not off post as it is being assumed but rather he has a crucial responsibility of ensuring the failure of the NPP in the December general elections.

According to Mr. Anyidoho, he spends sleepless nights strategizing and plotting the defeat of the opposition party and to prevent them from moving Ghana in the wrong direction.

My basic duty at the presidency is to protect and project the presidency in a positive light to Ghanaians for a renewal of mandate ahead of the December polls, he added.

Abedi Pele hot over Quattara’s cash to Akufo-Addo….

As “Notre Voie” exposes the real motive behind his September 11 trip to Ivory Coast

The controversial campaign funding, logistics and vehicles being received by the flag bearer of the opposition new patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo from the Ivorian leader, Alassane Quattara has taken a new dimension as an Ivorian newspaper “Notre Voie”, accused Abedi Pele of facilitating President Quattara’s financing of NPP. An article titled “Funding of the campaign of the opponent of John Dramani: the suspicious mission of Abedi Pele in Abidjan”, which appeared on 19th October, 2012 edition of the newpaper “Notre Voie”, has alleged that the real reason for Abedi Pele’s meeting with President Quattara on 11th September, 2012 in Abidjan was to facilitate financial assistance by the Ivorian government towards the campaign of Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the article, Abedi Pele, had stated after the meeting that he was I Abidjan at the invitation of President Quattara and that they had discussed issues relating to football as well as the fortunes of his two sons playing professional football in France. The newspaper however expressed skepticism over the professed reason for the visit, insisting that Abedi Pele was actually in Abidjan to serve as the conduit for financial assistance to the NPP flagbearer.

The article noted that the Quattara government considers the current Ghanaian government to be uncooperative, particularly in the matter of the extradition of exiled pro-Gbagbo supporters who are alleged to engaged in acts to destabilize Cote d’Ivoire from Ghana. It added that the Quattara government would therefore be happy if President John Mahama lose the December election elections.

The article recalled that under ex-president Gbagbo, the issue of maritime border demarcation between Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana was about to be settled in an amicable manner, but things have clearly changed under President Quattara.

It would be recalled that this newspaper broke the news on Nana Akufo-Addo turning to Quattara for Cash, logistics and campaign vehicles to support his presidential bid, which is in clear violation of the electoral rules on campaign funding.

Nana Akufo Addo campaign team took delivery of 200 pick-ups, and 60 new land cruisers as well as 20million france from Allasane Ouattara to aid its campaign.

Amanda Is My Ex-Lover: Praye Tintin

Amanda with Bright

Weird revelations are popping up in Ghana’s showbiz fraternity as Praye Tintin, former member of celebrated music trio Praye, has said he wants the whole world to know he had an erotic love relationship with popular television presenter Amanda Jissih.

According to Praye Tintin, his love rendezvous with Amanda Jissih, ace showbiz icon and host of E-Talk on GH-ONE, lasted for almost two years, adding that he suspected the lady still had a crush on him and might even be jealous he had moved on and had had a child with another woman.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Amanda denied ever dating Praye Tintin known in real life as Nana Adu Koranteng. “I have never dated that guy. I have never dated him. The only person I have ever dated in showbiz circles is Bright Sparkles of Buk Bak fame.

I loved Bright and he is the only person I have dated in showbiz,” an obviously surprised and apparently angry Amanda told Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Review’, moments after Praye Tintin made his shocking love confession on THE same platform.

These developments are happening barely two weeks after NEWS-ONE broke a story that Bright Sparkles had used, exploited and dumped Amanda after he used her links within the entertainment media to promote his ‘Kolom’ song.

The report said Amanda spent her life savings on Bright, managed his career and pushed his group to make sure they were accepted again but Bright suddenly left Ghana for the States without even telling her he was travelling for good.

Just when the dust was settling on the love story between Bright and Amanda, Razz entertainment newspaper broke another story that Praye Tintin had threatened to kill the same Amanda.

Praye Tintin with baby Mama

Indeed, Amanda had confirmed to Razz that she had been receiving life-threatening messages from Praye Tintin after she interviewed the remaining two members of the Praye music group on her show.

Tintin has denied threatening Amanda and accused her of fabricating the story as she had not overcome the fact that they once dated and had broken up.

The story is still developing…

Whether We’re Number 9 Or 10, NDP Will Still Be On The Ballot Paper – Mrs Rawlings

Mrs Rawlings in the studios of PeaceFM

Former First Lady and flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, is still optimistic that the Electoral Commission (EC) will accede to her party’s demands and re-instate the NDP in the presidential race to enable her contest this year’s general elections.

The NDP flagbearer says should the courts rule in favour of the EC, the party’s Parliamentary aspirants still have the backing of the Executives.

“Whether we are number 10 or 9 (on the ballot paper), it will surely happen,’ Mrs Rawlings said.

The NDP, an off-shot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), was disqualified a couple of days ago after failing to meet the EC’s criteria for the submission of nomination forms. According to the EC, there were some anomalies in the forms submitted by the NDP.

But not happy with the EC’s action, the NDP said Nana Konadu’s disqualification violates the principles of democratic governance and thus filed an application at the Human Rights division of the High Court seeking an order of mandamus to force the EC to carry out its public duty to have their flag-bearer Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings registered as a presidential candidate for the December elections.

In her first live radio interview following her disqualification and subsequent filing of the suit, the former First Lady, who was on an official visit to PeaceFM, lamented her exclusion from this year’s list of presidential candidates to Nana Yaa Konadu during the station’s News@Midday.

“It’s unfortunate that my name was not included… our parliamentary candidates had a lot of problems and so we ended up concentrating much on them; to the extent that I forgot to fill mine...but I managed to complete it and gave it to the emissaries to submit…it’s unfortunate…we’ve taken the issue to court and so we are awaiting the court’s decision…we will abide by it because I am a law abiding person”

According to her, the NDP has 170 parliamentary aspirants contesting in the upcoming December polls, and stressed that if the worst happens and the EC remains adamant by excluding her, she will render her unflinching support to the parliamentary candidates.

“NDP is a registered entity and we have about 170 parliamentary candidates in the various constituencies and so the NDP is a formidable party...They are working seriously in the constituencies; and all we need is for the Presidential slot to go through…,” she noted.

Former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, Sentenced to Jail

Silvio Berlusconi

(Reuters) – An Italian court on Friday sentenced former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi to four years in jail for tax fraud in connection with the purchase of broadcasting rights by his Mediaset television company.

Berlusconi has the right to appeal the ruling two more times before a definite sentence, and will not have to serve any time in jail until his final appeal is heard. Prosecutors had asked for a jail sentence of three years and eight months.

The ruling comes two days after Berlusconi, 76, confirmed he would not run in next year’s elections as the leader of his People of Freedom (PDL) center-right party.

Mediaset shares fell nearly 3 percent after the ruling.

37 MPs score “F” in Africawatch Magazine ratings

37 MPs score “F” in Africawatch Magazine ratings

As many as thirty-seven parliamentarians scored “F” in the Africawatch Magazine’s Political Performance Index (PPI) for 2012.
The PPI is a performance grade that Ghana’s citizens award to the country’s politicians.

Africawatch, the pan-African newsmagazine, created the PPI in 2010 and released a second edition in 2011. This year’s PPI is the first to be compiled by the International Center for Public Accountability, a nonpartisan organization (ICPA).

“ICPA was created to gather timely information about the performance of government officials, and to present that information in a way that’s accessible and easy to understand by all citizens.

The idea is to help promote a better democracy by making leadership more responsive and effective, and helping citizens become more involved in the issues that affect them,” according to a release by Steve Mallory, Executive Director of the CPA.

All of Ghana’s top politicians are graded in the latest Index – everyone from the president and presidential candidates, to ministers, members of Parliament, and political party executives.

President Mahama came up with the best ratings among the presidential contenders for the December polls, receiving a B+ on his general performance and a C+ on his ethical beahviour.

NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo also got a B+ on his general performance and a C- on his ethical behaviour.

Hassan Ayariga of the PNC got a D for his performance generally and a C+ for his ethical behaviour.

The two Deputy Speakers of Parliament; Doe Adjaho and Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye crushed their Boss, Mrs. Joyce Bamford-Addo who scored a B- whereas they were graded A- each.

Three parliamentarians were rated as the best performers.

They include New Patriotic Party’s Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, Papa Owusu Ankomah and the Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka who all scored As while popular.

However, outspoken NPP MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Seth Adjei Baah, Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba and Irene Naa Torshie were all graded “F” for their performances in parliament. Sheikh I.C. Quaye did not improve his past grading as he scored another “F”.

The MP for Bawku Central, Adamu Sakande who is currently serving a two year jail term was graded “F” whereas MP for Jomoro Samia Yaba Nkrumah got a C+ for her performance.

Minister Slaps NPP Man And Receives More In Return

Dr. Mustapha Ahmed

A deputy minister of Environment, Science and Technology and MP for the Ayawaso East, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, yesterday traded slaps with a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist during a keep-fit brawl at the Nima-Maamobi suburb of Accra.

Even though Dr. Mustapha Ahmed has denied that any such physical encounter took place, police sources have confirmed the street brawl. Reports reaching the Daily Guide newspaper indicate that a group of NPP supporters while undertaking their weekly keep fit jogging exercise unexpectedly encountered a National Democratic Congress (NDC) group from an opposite direction at Mamobi. In the course of a misunderstanding which ensued at that stage, the soft-spoken Dr. Ahmed, who is the incumbent MP and NDC candidate for the newly-created Ayawaso North, allegedly held the shirt of the NPP supporter and slapped him.

The young man responded with a slap and followed it up with another, making the MP, a retired military officer, to stagger, eye-witnesss told Daily Guide. They had to whisk the deputy minister away when it became obvious that the NPP supporters wanted to descend on him for the unprovoked attack. Dr. Ahmed, a dentist by training, however denied slapping anybody yesterday, explaining that he had never slapped anybody before and could not have done what he was alleged to have done.

The NPP activist, according to sources, was a former NDC member who had decamped from the ruling party, citing the poor leadership of the MP as his main reason. According to Alhaji Yusif Ahmad aka Fofano, the NPP parliamentary candidate challenging the incumbent MP, the deputy minister did not slap the young man whose name is being withheld for security reasons.

Fofana said, “Following a meeting of the constituency executives of the two parties and the Nima Police held on how to ensure a hitch-free exercise, we were assigned routes for the various weeks’ keep-fit exercises. Unfortunately, however, on the fateful day when we got to Mamobi in the newly created Ayawaso North constituency, we saw the NDC joggers and decided to change our course to avoid an imminent clash. When we turned, the MP and his group followed us. In the course of an argument with one of our boys, he (MP) slapped him and the boy responded and followed it with another one.”

He however said the Nima NDC constituency executives had apologized to their NPP counterparts because, as they put it, they were responsible for what transpired yesterday. “Net2 TV captured them rendering the apology,” he added.

Dr. Ahmad, after the recent creation of 45 new constituencies, has been moved from Ayawaso East at Nima to Ayawaso North constituency.
“I have heard people saying that I slapped someone and that person slapped back. No such thing happened. All I did was to ensure that there was no clash between the two groups. I had suggested earlier that we should have the keep-fit exercises on separate days so that clashes of the sort which nearly occurred are obviated. I was part of the exercise but on realizing that there was going to be a clash, I intervened and that was all.

I stopped my boys from engaging their NPP counterparts. There was no trading of slaps as being alleged in some quarters. I recall that on one occasion, a road was blocked and this nearly resulted in a fracas but upon my intervention a clash was obviated,” the dental surgeon now politician told Daily Guide just as he landed in Kumasi for a political activity.

A keep-fit exercise suggests physical engagement, which it is anyway, but in Nima, it is also a political statement by the two main parties NPP and NDC. It is also a muster parade of sorts as the parties assembly their members on the streets, march through the main streets and end with speeches by the aspirant or MP as the case maybe.
Yesterday’s keep-fit had guest joggers like Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

It is normal for other high profile personalities from other constituencies to be invited to participate in the exercise which also enables the party to showcase itself, especially as elections approach.

The newly picked NPP candidate for the Ayawaso East constituency, Mohammed Baba Alhassan, headmaster of the Ghana Lebanon Islamic Senior High School, also took part in yesterday’s exercise alongside Hon Frema, with the constituency’s candidate leading the large turnout of party faithful. He also said he heard about the fracas.
With what could have been a major clash between the two parties, the police might have to consider another option in managing the weekly keep-fit exercises since the joggers occasionally veer off the approves routes.

Fetish Priests Hijack Advertising Industry

Fetish Priest

Spiritual healers have now taken over the advertising industry by erecting large billboards across the country to promote their businesses.

From larger structures to miniature signposts, the traditional priests and priestesses, mallams are competing for space with churches and the business community along highways, advertising their shrines and services which include career success, wealth, good marriages, booming business, as well as problem-free visa acquisition.

Highways including Accra-Nsawam, Nkawkaw-Kumasi, Koforidua-Abetifi, Koforidua-Bunso, Kasoa-Cape Coast and dusty-pothole-filled rural areas like Kasoa-Bawjiase are lined with such billboards.

Advertisers Association of Ghana says the minimum cost of producing a billboard is between GH¢3,000 and GH¢80,000.

On the Accra-Nsawam road, one such noticeable billboard is that of the enigmatic priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam. Nana Bonsam’s billboard standing defiantly on the Accra-Nsawam road, describes him as a “powerful spiritual man” and “the great authentic man.”

The billboard, which has two pictures — one with the spiritualist in priestly regalia and in a trance and another with him in a black smock and riding a black horse – lists his litany of services to include seeking vengeance and solutions to bareness, stalled promotion, debt, madness, spiritual attack, marriage problems, poverty, and impotence.

On the same road, not to be outdone by the intimidating Nana Bonsam’s effigy, there is Nana Ababio, who tags himself the spiritual father and provider of all spiritual problems.

Those adverting themselves in the Islamic fold are Mallam Ibrahim, who tags himself as ‘wonderful man; Mallam Musah, the spiritual and herbal last stop; Kunfayakun Herbal Spiritual Centre operated by Sheikh Dr Black and White; with a rather tall list of remedies for all manner of physical and spiritual ailments.

Others on the Accra-Nsawam road include Hare Krishna Temple and Mallam Zacharia Ibrahim.

On the Kasoa-Winneba road, there is a long chain of billboards belonging to Alhaji Baba Fear God, Nana Atia Yaw and Nana Oboanipa, Bobivi Kwame among others.

While some spiritualists have received applause for their efforts in sometimes exposing people in search of quick money, their stock in trade is faith-based healing and, sometimes, magic which preys upon the gullibility of their wealthier followers and the desperation of the poor.

The messages of healing, miracles and prosperity easily find sympathetic echoes among a populace down on the economic ladder. With the vulnerable at their mercy, the emphasis is on good life, an antidote to the despair that thrives in society outside the walls of their shrines.

The spiritualists are not advertising their trade only on billboards. They are deploying all forms of technology including radio and social media. Nana Bonsam for instance has close to 3,864 friends on facebook and a website, www.kwakubonsam.com.
Nana Kweku Bonsam
That, according to Nana Bonsam, had become necessary because “as society changes you also have to change. As we speak, the Internet is changing the face of communication in the world. We cannot continue to rely on the past and expect it to make any difference.”

“In the past, all these did not exist so our forbearers limited themselves to small corners. We need to expand our frontiers and bring the African traditional religion to our young people who are losing their heritage to foreign cultures because of the myths surrounding the religion. There is no better way to do it than through technology,” he stated.

Gboloho Nyame Bekyere, a septuagenarian spiritualist on the Kasoa-Bawjiase road, whose giant concrete signpost bearing a snake wrapped around a mermaid, shared the same sentiment with Nana Bonsam.

The acclaimed specialist in madness, marriage and any spiritual attack said: “If you are hidden somewhere without being seen, this signpost is the best means of announcing your presence.”

Asked about whether the billboard is licensed, Gboloho Nyame with a high-pitched laughter and a loud tone said: “We don’t do anything illegal here. I am not a con man and won’t do anything that will break laws and send me behind the walls of Nsawam.”

A Social Anthropologist Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Mr Frimpong Manso, observed that spiritual healers have taken over billboards across the country because of social change, fuelled by the increasing influence of the traditional and new media.

He continued: “Another reason could be that the spiritual leaders have come to realise that some of the so-called men of God derive their powers from them and then go out there to publicise themselves. So why don’t we tell the world about our prowess?”

He said while the larger society saw the phenomen as strange, there was nothing wrong or strange about the situation as “they are operating within a social context.

“They also study society and what society wants is what they provide,” Mr Frimpong said.

NPP Activists Bathed With Acid In Techiman

The preview of the December polls is getting murkier within the Techiman North and South Constituencies of the Brong Ahafo Region as some New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwarts have been put on a hit list by their political opponents.

One of such targets, Peter Mensah, the Techiman North Constituency Organizing Secretary and host of a programme dubbed ‘NPP Hour’ on Techiman-based Classic FM, was bathed with acid.

Mensah escaped an attempt on his life by some unknown assailants believed to be members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday.

Hospital authorities disclosed that Mensah, who sustained various degrees of burns, was in a critical condition. Peter Boahen, an NPP member, also sustained burns, alongside Mensah, after large volumes of some liquid suspected to be acid was poured on them by their assailants.

The rationale of the perpetrators of the act, currently on the run, is still unknown. Speaking to DAILY GUIDE at the Holy Family Hospital where the two victims sought first aid, Mensah disclosed that he attended a peace programme at the Methodist Church at Techiman on behalf of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman North, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi.

The programme, according to him, was aimed at fostering peace and cohesion among the various political parties and contestants before, during and after the elections. A few moments to the end of the programme, he had to leave for another engagement elsewhere within the municipality.

He asked Peter Boahen, a friend, to join him in his car to undertake that assignment. On their way to the assignment at about 7pm, they noticed that they were being stalked by two unidentified persons on an unregistered motorbike.

He thought the rider and his pillion rider, perhaps, were travellers and so he never conceived any ill intentions about them until they got closer and rode straight to the driver’s door. The pillion rider, carrying the liquid substance in a gallon, poured it on him and the motorbike sped off.

Mensah told Daily Guide that because of the burning sensation of the liquid, he took off his clothes.

Boahen took over the steering wheel and drove to the Holy Family Hospital where they were both given first aid and referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Mr. Mensah disclosed that he was certain some politicians from the opposing side had hatched a plan to kill him. He is yet to officially lodge a complaint with the police.

NPP members within the area expressed concern over their security within the municipality following the latest attacks on their leaders. They therefore called on the security agencies to step up measures to guarantee their safety.

In another development, NPP members in the Techiman municipality have promised to resist attempts by their opponents to intimidate them ahead of the December polls. This comes in the wake of text message threats on the lives of some NPP kingpins in the area warning them to desist from lending support to the party or die in the process.

Political Parties Interpret Their Positions On Ballot Paper

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who picked the number one position for President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, said the top spot on the ballot paper would make party’s voter education easier.

“This is a good omen for us as the first position also falls in line with our ‘One touch victory slogan,’ for Election 2012,” Mr Asiedu Nketia told the Ghana News Agency in Accra after leading some party executives to participate in the balloting at the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), described the third position for the party’s Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo said: “Three is a good number for the NPP.” “With number three, we are sure to win. The NPP picked number one position in 2008 and we lost the elections and the late President John Evans Atta Mills picked number three and won”.

Justifying the number seven position he picked for the presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP), Dr Michael Abu Sakara Foster, Mr. Donkor Ayita, said: “Number seven has all the powers that God invested on earth and it also represent the number of perfection”.

Mr Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention who represented the party and picked the sixth position for Mr Hassan Ayariga, the party’s presidential candidate, down played the significance of position on the ballot paper.

He said: “simple positions on the ballot paper does not win vote, but rather intensive voter education is key and the trick to winning elections and will not attach any spiritual meaning to the number six.”

Mr. Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, EC Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, said the pictures of the presidential candidates would appear on the ballot paper in accordance with the position they occupy. He said a later date would be organized for parliamentary candidates of the six political parties whose flag bearers’ nomination papers were rejected ballot for positions.

At the end of balloting supervised by Mr Sarfo-Kantanka, the NDC’s presidential candidate picked the top spot on the ballot paper and second spot was picked by Dr Henry Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP picked the third position, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP) the fourth position and the United Front Party’s (UFP) Mr Akwasi Adddai Odike, the fifth position.

The rest are Mr Hassan Ayariga of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) sixth and the Dr Michael Abu Sakara Foster of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) seven.

According to the Electoral rules the Independent Presidential Candidate Mr Jacob Osei Yebaoh will be the eighth on the Presidential ballot. The positions will be the same for parliamentary candidates, with independent candidates coming after candidates of the political parties in alphabetical order.

The order for that balloting was determined by the order in which the presidential candidates filed their papers at the EC last Wednesday and Thursday. In Election 2008, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo picked the top spot on the ballot paper whilst the second was picked by Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama of the People's National Convention, while Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) occupied the third on the ballot paper.

Mr Emmanuel Ansah Antwi of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) fourth, Mr Thomas Ward-Brew of the Democratic People's Party fifth, and Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom then with the Convention People's Party sixth, Mr Kwamena Adjei of the Reformed Patriotic Democrats seventh, while Mr Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, an independent candidate was eighth.

EC Connived With NDC To Disqualify Me – Akua Donkor

Akua Donkor

Madam Akua Donkor, standard bearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has accused the Electoral Commission of conniving with the governing National Democratic Party to disqualify her from taking part in the December 7 election.

According to Madam Donkor, NDC supporters at the Electoral Commission burst into laughter and shouted ‘we’ve taken you out’ even before she went in to see Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan to submit her forms.

Making the claim on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show a day after she was disqualified for what the EC says were improperly endorsed forms, Madam Akua Donkor insisted even if there were errors in her forms, she deserved a second chance to correct her errors. After all, she argued, even the EC, with offices across the country, had problems organizing the voter registration exercise.

She showed a Payment Order made out to the Electoral Commission worth Ghc10,000 from the Kumasi main branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank, order number 0009015960504, from “Honourable Akua Donkor” on October 17, 2012 as well as four standard sized photographs as evidence of her preparedness to partake in the elections.

“At first they thought I couldn’t pay, but when I showed them the Order, they got scared and decided to take me out. Because they want to continue stealing our money, they have even shared some at the EC so they disqualify me. But I will still fight them.”

She has threatened to sue the EC for an extension of time to enable her correct the error in the form. The 58 year old farmer and philanthropist burst onto the political scene a few months ago with promises to make virtually everything free for Ghanaians if voted President on December 7.

Among the litany of promises was a pledge to provide journalists and teachers with free cars and petrol. She also promised to demand an accounting from both the governing NDC and the NPP of funds accruing from the exploitation of Ghana’s mineral wealth, which in her opinion should be enough to pay for everything.

Farmers over 40 years would also be bussed free of charge to withdraw their monthly allowance from the state. As things stand though, all of these pledges appear to be still-born.

Prez Mahama To Lay Out Healthcare Policy At IEA Encounter Today

Prez. John Mahama

President Mahama will today (Thursday) speak to the National Democratic Congress’ policy on healthcare, education and energy when he takes his turn at the IEA evening encounter.

This will be the first time a sitting president is submitting to such an event. The NDC had earlier declined to participate in the IEA following earlier conventions where sitting presidents abstain.

But the party changed its decision after the demise of president Mills. A member of the Government Communication Team, Samuel Nartey George told XYZ News the president will buttress the issues he has been telling Ghanaians.

Mr Sam George said, “the president is going to focus on our concrete plans for education which spans from kindergarten to the tertiary level. When it comes to healthcare, we are expanding healthcare infrastructure.”

A statement signed by the presidential spokesperson said: "The NDC’s philosophy is people-centred. This will be highlighted in government’s success story in the areas of Health, Education and Social Protection. The President will touch on the commitment in our Manifesto for construction of new Regional Hospitals, Polyclinics and other health facilities."

It said: "President Mahama will speak on the GH¢150million funding for the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan. He will take the opportunity to reiterate the party’s commitment to quality education and accessible education for all not free for some."

President Mahama’s presentation will therefore hinge on the four pillars of the NDC’s 2012 manifesto: Putting People First, A Strong And Resilient Economy for Jobs, Expanding Infrastructure and Transparent and Accountable Governance.

President Mahama is also expected to present his nomination forms at 10 o’clock this morning.

"I’ve Forgiven Asiedu Nketia"

Rt Rev Prof Emmanuel Martey
THE MODERATOR of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, has said he has put the recent fracas between him and NDC General Secretary Johnson Aseidu Nketia, which saw the latter hurling unprintable words at the cleric, behind him.

As a Man of God, Rev Martey said, it was not right for him to resent his fellow human being as the word of God did not encourage that, stressing that he had forgiven and forgotten whatever Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, said against him, especially in the media recently.

President John Mahama had begged for forgiveness for his garrulous general secretary and chairman of his campaign.

Rt. Rev. Martey said, “I love Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia who is my church member”, indicating that as a staunch Christian, the Bible stipulated that he should forgive anybody that sinned against him.

“I don’t have any bad motives or hatred against Mr. Asiedu Nketia following what happened recently,” the Man of God said in an interview on Kessben FM.

He added, “As a father, if your son sins against you, it is prudent that you forgive him for peace to prevail”, noting that he had decided to forgive the NDC general secretary for peace to prevail.

Asiedu Nketia, it would be recalled, recently took the Presbyterian Church Moderator to the cleaners in the media after Rev. Martey had expressed his opinion on pressing national issues, especially the creation of the controversial 45 new constituencies, which the NDC guru did not take lightly.

Rev Martey noted that what he said, which the NDC kingpin did not take lightly, was nothing but the truth, stressing that he was an honest person who always spoke the truth; therefore he would always try his best to say the truth, especially on national issues.

According to him, he was yet to meet Asiedu Nketia personally since the seeming fracas between them, disclosing, “I travelled outside the country and if God permits then we shall meet soon now that I have returned.”

Rev. Martey emphasized that he stood for the truth and frowned on insults so no matter how much he was insulted, he would never retaliate with insults, stressing, “I love Asiedu Nketia irrespective of what happened between us.”

Applauds Nana, Rawlings

Rev. Martey was full of praise for former President Rawlings and NPP Presidential Candidate Nana Akufo-Addo for their decision to meet and discuss matters bordering on ensuring Ghana’s peace, urging other politicians to emulate the shining example of the duo.

According to him, the historic meeting between the NDC founder and the NPP leader could go a long way to deepen Ghana’s peace and also help to make the upcoming polls peaceful.

He said, “The meeting between Nana Akufo and former President Rawlings is a practical demonstration of the peace that we are talking about”, urging politicians in the country to also demonstrate publicly their intentions of contributing to make the elections peaceful.

The meeting between the two leaders, the Moderator stated, should give strong signals to the mass followers of the NPP and NDC that there was no need for them to engage each other in a brawl just because of politics.

Rev. Martey noted that all the political leaders were friends who behind the scenes talked to each other in a nice and peaceful manner, so the grassroots members of the parties should also learn to accommodate their political opponents.

The Moderator entreated Ghanaians, notably Christians, to begin to pray fervently to God to make the coming elections an incident-free one, reminding the populace that they had no country aside Ghana; therefore it was incumbent on them to contribute to help the country stay peaceful.

English FA condemns racism, reports to UEFA

England Serbia U21s violence

The Football Association says it has reported "a number of incidents of racism" to UEFA after England's Under-21 Euro 2013 qualifier in Serbia was marred by ugly scenes.

• Brewin: UEFA must get tough

Connor Wickham hit the only goal of the game at the Mladost Stadium in Krusevac as England secured their place in next summer's finals in Israel with a 2-0 aggregate win.

Scuffles involving Serbian supporters, players and other officials broke out after the final whistle, while England's Danny Rose was sent off for reacting angrily to racial abuse.

Rose was pushed in the back as he left the field and gestured to indicate that monkey chants had been aimed at him.

England assistant coach Steve Wigley was also caught up in the trouble and was manhandled as he made his way to the tunnel.

A statement from the FA read: "The FA condemns both the scenes of racism and the confrontation at the final whistle during which time our players and staff were under extreme provocation.

"The FA has reported a number of incidents of racism to UEFA following the fixture.

"These were seemingly aimed at a number of England's black players by the crowd. The matter is now with UEFA."

Head coach Stuart Pearce told BBC Sport: "One or two of the technical staff from the opposition, and I don't include their manager in that, didn't cover themselves in glory on the pitch at the end.

"Punches, headbutts were thrown, and God knows what else. We will let the authorities deal with this at UEFA."

Former England international Paul Ince has called for Serbia to be banned from tournament football.

"It's disgraceful to see these scenes," said the former Liverpool and Manchester United midfielder, whose son Tom featured for England.

Ince admitted he had been worried for the safety of the 20-year-old, who plays for Blackpool.

"When your son's out there it's worrying," he told ESPN. "You could just see if they [England] were to win or go through, it was getting more hostile.

"[Fifia boss] Sepp Blatter and [Uefa chief Michel] Platini need to look at this.

"If it was me they [Serbia] would be kicked out for the next five tournaments - European, World Cups - but they will get a little ban and that will be it. Things like that are not what we want to see in football - it takes it back to the dark ages."

Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle told BBC Radio Five: "You should not have to experience those scenes in this day and age. It was utterly deplorable behaviour.

"It's quite farcical. A guy is racially abused and then he gets punished for containing his reaction to that.

"We saw how the whole debacle progressed into punching, kicking... We saw photos of headbutts going on in the staff. But Danny Rose for kicking a ball away ends up getting himself sent off. This is just wrong.

"UEFA need to make a standpoint here and more importantly FIFA, I feel, because it was a FIFA qualification tournament. The message has to come from the top down that this behaviour will not be tolerated."

A match between the two countries at the 2007 Under-21 European Championship in the Netherlands was marred when England defender Nedum Onuoha was racially abused.

Serbia were fined £16,000 by UEFA after that incident.

Akufo-Addo Wanted To Kill Rawlings In 2008 – NDC

Yamoah Ponkoh

A senior member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, has accused the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo of sending armed men to kill former President Rawlings in Kumasi four years ago.

According to Mr Yamoah Ponko, who is also the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu-Juaben in the Ashanti Region, he was personally present at the Golden Tulip Hotel when the armed men stormed the hotel in late 2008 and it took the intervention of persons close by to foil the plot.

He made the allegation on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show of October 15, 2012 while contributing to discussions on the endorsement of former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as flagbearer of the breakaway National Democratic Party at the weekend.

The former Ashanti region head of the National Health Insurance Scheme expressed surprise at the actions of former President Rawlings, particularly his recent meeting with the NPP flagbearer.

“I want to say it today for all Ghanaians to know: 2008 at the Golden Tulip formerly City Hotel Kumasi Nana Akufo-Addo and his people, armed men, came there looking for Jerry Rawlings to kill him. I was there, and it was only God who saved you (Rawlings)…

“I made a lot of noise about it before the 2008 elections. I believe if your time to die has not come, no one can kill you,” he declared.

He wondered what had suddenly come over Mr Rawlings, now consorting with the man who, together with former President Kufuor, ‘did not allow you and your wife to breathe freely’ during the NPP’s term of office, and but for the vigilance of NDC supporters and sympathizers, former president Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo would have jailed Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings in Ghana.

Nevertheless, the NDC had only grown stronger after the apparent defection of the Rawlingses, Mr Ponko said, and called on members of the party to close ranks and ensure President Mahama wins a one-touch victory with “53%” of the vote.

Also commenting, the Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji bature Idrissu, has claimed that he saved former president Rawlings from being jailed about 6 years ago.

While declining to give details, a charged Bature insisted Mr Rawlings was not as clean as he would want the world to believe.

“You are not a saint, President Rawlings. You know it! I will not sit down for you to destroy the memory of President Mills...I want Rawlings to come out and say I did not save him from going to jail and I will bring out the details. There are living witnesses who can attest to this."

I'll Not Vote For Nana Konadu Rawlings - Kofi Adams

Kofi Adams

The spokesperson for former President Rawlings, Kofi Adams, has revealed that he will not vote for the wife of his boss, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, in the upcoming December polls.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, the suspended NDC Deputy General Secretary said he was committed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and will thus vote for President John Mahama.

Nana Konadu, a former Vice Chair of the ruling party, was on Saturday acclaimed as the flagbearer of the newly formed National Democratic Party at its congress in Kumasi.

Mr. Adams, however, said though he represents the interests of the first family, his allegiance still lies with President Mahama and the NDC. “President Mahama is my candidate, I will vote President Mahama... I have not left the NDC. The NDC has a flagbearer and that is where my vote will go,” he said.

Discounting rumours that he and former President Rawlings had resigned from the NDC, Adams retorted, “I have continued to defend the NDC and will do so to the heavens and that I remain to the NDC... My heart is still with the NDC. If my heart is not with the NDC I will not have been contesting the NDC for what they did against me in court. I would just have left,” he said.

He added: “I don't also think that President Rawlings has said he's left the NDC and he never wished the NDC’s defeat or the NDC goes into opposition.”

Ghanaian Men Have World’s Third Largest Manhood – Study

Ghanaian men are the world’s third most-endowed when it comes to the size of their manhood, according to a new research. Ghanaian men have a penis size averaging 6.8 inches when erect, the study says.

The research is published in scientific journal Personality and Individual Differences.

The research, covering 113 nationalities, was conducted by British Richard Lynn – emeritus professor of psychology at Ulster University (pictured).

His findings showed that men from the Republic of Congo lead the pack with 7.1 inches. They are followed by Ecuadorean men at 7 inches, Ghanaians at 6.8 inches and the Colombians at 6.7 inches.

A report by the Mail of the UK citing the report noted that British men typically have bigger penises than their French neighbours – but are less well endowed than the Germans.

In Europe, the research shows, Icelanders are the best endowed at 6.5 inches and the Irish are the second smallest at 5.03 inches – behind only Romanians at 5.01 inches, the report says.

Africans have the biggest penises at an average of 6.3in and north-east Asians the smallest at 4.2in.

The Mail, listed the following in a table.

Republic of Congo – 7.1
Ecuador – 7
Ghana – 6.8
Columbia – 6.7
Iceland – 6.5
Italy – 6.2
South Africa – 6
Sweden – 5.9
Greece – 5.8
Germany – 5.7
New Zealand – 5.5
UK – 5.5
Canada – 5.5
Spain – 5.5
France – 5.3
Australia – 5.2
Russia – 5.2
USA – 5.1
Ireland – 5
Romania – 5
China – 4.3
India – 4
China – 4
Thailand – 4
South Korea – 3.8
North Korea – 3.8

Richard Lynn is known for voicing the controversial view that evolutionary pressures have led to racial and national differences in intelligence.

Mr Lynn says that the findings confirm previous theories of ‘race differences in penis length’ with Negroids the best endowed and Mongoloids the least.

He concludes: ‘For most populations penis length are predictable and confirmed.’
