Samini does it again for Ghana
Ghana’s dancehall artist, Samini won the 2011 Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted Reggae/Dancehall Video ward , Friday night at Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Fellow Ghanaian rapper, D-Black however missed out on the only other nomination for Ghana, the Most Gifted African West Video which went to Nigeria’s Naeto C.
Nigerian superstar, D’Banj wasn’t present at the ceremony to pick up his Special Recognition Award. According to some reports, upon getting to the airport to travel to South Africa, D’Banj and his crew discovered that the awards organizers had gotten him an economy ticket, instead of a business ticket because he had been placed on a waiting list for a business class ticket but the flights were fully booked for days.
So he refused to get onto the flight. Thus, Channel O representatives later went to his Lekki home to record an acceptance speech which was aired at the award ceremony. Dbanj also walked away with the Most Gifted Male Video for ‘ Mr. Endowed (Remix)’ which featured hip hop star, Snoop Dogg.
The night saw exciting themed mash-up performances from the likes of , Tiwa Savage, Cabo Snoop, DJ Cleo, Ice Prince, Flavour, Theo, Chuli Chana and others. The ceremony was hosted by Channel O star, Dineo and Nigerian singer, Banky W was hosted the event, performed on the night and also won an award.
