Irate Market Women Expose Their Breasts...Block Road
Tension is brewing at Dome, a suburb of Accra following a dawn demolition exercise carried out by the police at the Dome Market.
The
market women are said to be up in arms with the police following the
reported destroying of sheds mounted along the main road leading to the
market.
Angered by the exercise, the market women erected a
blockade on the main road trapping commuters plying that route for hours
on end.
Peacefm's Yaw Obeng Manu who was at the scene reports
that some motorists were forced to step out of their cars and walk the
rest of the journey to their respective destinations.
A team of
policemen sent to the location beat a sharp retreat when the market
women hurled tomatoes and other food-stuffs at them, he said.
According
to him, tempers flared when a reinforcement team tried to muscle their
way through by tearing down the road block. They were met with stiff
resistance from the traders some of whom resorted to exposing their
breasts and other parts of their bodies.
