Akua Donkor seen at Buhari’s swearing-in

Nigerian President, Mahamudu Buhari’s inauguration on Friday was graced by some of the most recognisable faces, including United States Secretary of State John Kerry, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe and Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama.

The large number of high-profiled dignitaries was expected considering the influence Nigeria has on the African continent and across the world. However, Ghanaians would have been surprised by one particular name on the guest list at the event. The founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, colourfully dressed with a matching bag, joined Nigerians to celebrate Buhari’s inauguration earlier on Friday. Her presence was first noticed by the BBC’s Akwasi Sarpong, who tweeted a picture of the outspoken politician. The 2012 Presidential candidate of the GFP has been known to grace and make her presence felt on the big occasions and this was no different. She took to the stage last December at the National Delegates’ Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to shower President Mahama with praise, calling him ‘a gift from God.’ Buhari was elected President in polls last March, defeating then President Goodluck Jonathan
