Castro...

Two weeks after the mysterious disappearance of popular musician Castro 'Under Fire' during a jet ski ride with a female friend in Ada, the entire nation is still shocked by the incident which has received massive media coverage as well as several high-profile reactions both locally and internationally.

One place in Ghana that has been affected the most by the incident is Castro's birthplace of Sekondi-Takoradi.

One can only admire the overwhelming love and support that residents of the twin city are showing to their icon since radio stations started broadcasting 'his death' that fateful Sunday afternoon. The whole town was shaken by the news. People abandoned their usual 'Sunday rituals'. There was total confusion. You rarely could hear loud music. Everything had come to a halt. Nothing was normal.

In the evening, many women trooped the residence of Castro's father (Mr. Eshun, popularly known as 'Coachee', who works at the Takoradi Harbour and also manages a youth football team) to console him.

The entire central business district was relatively quiet the next day with some traders attributing the unusual calmness to the Castro incident.

Since the the incident happened, die-hard fans of the musician have been criticizing some local radio stations for what they describe as unprofessional handling of the news. The radio stations who were constantly chastised for prematurely declaring Castro dead have been forced to retract the reports and apologize.

To Castro's home fans, only his dead body will confirm his death. According to them, Castro is a faithful ambassador who is down-to-earth despite his fame and success in the music industry. Castro freely supports any local musician who approaches him so almost every local artiste has a song with him.

It is clear his fans and many proteges have not lost hope. They still look forward to seeing Castro in town for a mega concert. Castro's hit joint with Sarkodie 'Adonai' as well as his singles 'Olofofo' and 'Jealousy' can be heard in almost every corner. There are also reports of some schools and churches in the metropolis conducting special prayers for the musician.

It has been a very interesting period in the history of show business in Ghana and even though the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of one of the strong pillars of contemporary Ghanaian music is yet to be uncovered, to his loyal fans in Sekondi-Takoradi, Castro is alive.

VGMA..Night of fashion and music

 

I didn't comment on the VGMA yesternite simply because ,

1. I didn't have 200 or 100 cedes to spend freely... 

2. I went out lastnite n got home late so I missed it on TV too. 

From what I have been reading on facebook, twitter and whatsapp, these are my take on the awards nite. 

1) I could see one of the so called "Big Artiste" decided not to attend the program but bought as many tickets for his followers to attend the program so they will shout his name out loud to show he deserves an award...I learnt he had 3 awards though.. 

2)The Tema & Gh "Rap King" made an account of himself on stage by sweeping about 4 awards n performed on point. 

3). I could read about the solidarity of GH gents & ladies for their beloved Micheal Jackson look- alike "Y N" by not dancing to tracks sang by an artiste from Nigeria who only wants waist of women... I heard his bro from Nigeria had all the applause and the shouts from the audience.. l mean the 'Aye' man. Big ups man 4). I must say this before l forget. l learnt there was the return of the only n truly "Madman" of our time on stage.. He was n l think is still the real mad man when it comes to stage performance. Don't forget he has seen it before..he has swept these awards in grand style some years back. l mean the "Y3k) Mma p3" fame 5. I heard there was this drama of a "Tailor" n a Big Brother Africa lady's proposal. Hmm anyway its better to repair your "used" Royce Rolls than to buy a brand new Tico. I see most of the girls updating that act and are saying the tailor is romantic.They are wishing for something like that.. Hmm my GH ladies always amuse me, for crying out loud, there are a lot of tailors around and most of these girls will turn them down when these "ade3 yie" men come to propose
6) I heard there was a miracle on stage....I learnt the program was hosted by a Police Officer alongside an "Easy" Corpse...Clay make up be what? hehe...how true was that?

 

I just came from #church. l need to eat so I will continue later.. But I must say it was a successful program from the tweets, facebook timeline n whatsapp messages I read. I saved GHC 200 but hey l can't escape the 50pesewas Vodafone will deduct from my account for posting this small amateur piece.

Guru To Face Charges For ‘Stealing’ Hit Song, Boys Abr3?

According to reports, rapper Guru may face legal action for using the beat on his hit single “Boys Abr3 (Akayida)” which originally belongs to a Kumasi based artist Yung C now known as Akwasi Cute.

Akwasi Cute who appeared on the Angel Entertainment Show over the weekend stated that although Guru had told him of his desire to use his instrumental in passing, no official communication or procedure was taken and he was shocked to hear the song was already being played even before Guru had sought his consent.

Akwasi Cute who intends to take legal action against Guru explained that efforts to reach Guru to try and settle the issue amicably had been futile as Guru had barred his calls and even refused to talk to him whilst shooting the video to song in Kumasi. He admitted that Guru mentioned his name in the song, but said that was however not good enough as there had been a copyright infringement.

Sex Burns More Calories Than A Walk

It has long been hailed as the cheat's way to exercise - while having fun.

And now Canadian researchers claim to have discovered exactly how many calories the average person burns during sex.

They say that in young people, sex burns an average of 4.2 calories a minute for men and 3.1 calories a minute for women.

With the average session lasting 24.7 minutes, this equates to 104 calories for men and 69 for women.

This makes it better exercise than a walk - but not as good as jogging.

The researchers, from the University of Quebec at Montreal, looked at 21 heterosexual couples aged between 18 to 35.

During four sex sessions at home, couples wore a SenseWear armband that tracked their energy expenditure.

They also answered questions on how tired they were afterwards, how much effort they put in and how much they enjoyed it.

Participants had previously undergone a half hour treadmill test so the researches could measure how many calories they burned during exertion - and then compared the readings from the armband worn during sex.

Men, for example, burned 9.2 calories per minute on the treadmill - but only 4.2 in the bedroom.For women, this fell to 7.1 calories while jogging.

And, to help settle another holy grail question, the average recorded session lasted for 24.7 minutes - the shortest being 10 and the longest 57 minutes.

While the figures aren't quite the marathon calorie burn some might hope for, they are better than those suggested in previous research.

David Allison, a biostatistician at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, found that the average person burns a mere 21 calories during the average session.

He discovered that sex lasted six minutes on average - 'disappointing, isn't it?' - and that the energy output equated to a paltry 20 or so calories - about the same as walking.

However, if done with enough gusto, sex can still count as 'significant exercise', the Quebec researchers said, reporting in the journal PLOS ONE.

More Trouble For Bishop Obinim

Eight more charges have been brought against Founder and Leader of God's Way International Ministry who is in court for allegedly assaulting two journalists at Accra-based Hot FM.

Bishop Obinim, noted for his infamous attack on the station, appeared before an Accra High Court on Friday, in the company of two of his associate Pastors, Kingsley Baah and Kofi Akwettey.

The court, presided over by Justice Abdullah Iddrisu, charged them for an unlawful entry into the radio station with the intent to commit crime and destroy properties belonging to the station.

The Bishop and his two accomplices were also charged for unlawfully and intentionally using a 'crowbar' to assault the Presenter of a show dubbed "Nya Asem Hwe" on Hot FM. On the third count, they were further charged for assaulting the producer of the show, Shedrack Adu, including a panelist Reverend Amoako Atta and also causing harm and citing him (Shedrack Adu) to anger.

They are also to pay for the items they destroyed, worth GHC 138,050.

The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been granted bail by the Police to a tune of GHC 10000 each with one surety, Hot FM's reporter said.

Narrating the incident to Peacefmonline.com, Hot FM's Joseph Oppong stated that Prosecutor, Joyce Debrah told the court that Bishop Obinim was informed by his wife, Florence Obinim, that he was being discussed on the programme "Nya Asem Hwe."

Following up on his wife's message, the Bishop stormed the station with a crowbar together with his Junior Pastors and smashed the glasses and studios of the station, where he also assaulted the Presenter, Producer and the panel member.

The case has been adjourned to November 6, 2013.

Compare And Contrast.....The Clasico

Saturday's first Clasico of the season will be billed as the usual clash of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in their eternal struggle for the big individual awards. Taking second billing will be Gareth Bale and Neymar, the new kids on the block but without the underwear adverts (apparently Ronaldo has that sewn up as well).

But this Clasico -- more so perhaps than even when Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho were at each other's throats (or eyes, in the case of Tito Vilanova, who will receive a colourful gesture at Camp Nou) -- is about the two managers. Neither Real or Barca's incumbent whiteboard-scribbler has yet experienced a Real Madrid-Barcelona contest, and both will be keenly interested in how the other's side square up.

Gerardo Martino spoke of "tweaking" what he had inherited when he was presented at Camp Nou. A relative unknown in Europe but a coach schooled in the finer arts of the South American game, he was at least a familiar face to fans of the national side after his Paraguay team came extremely close to derailing Spain's eventual 2010 World Cup triumph in the quarterfinals. Tactically flexible, he was a disciple of attack-minded former Athletic coach Marcelo Bielsa during his playing days at Newell's Old Boys and he was never going to ask the architects of tiki-taka to sit back.

What he has tried to instill in his side is the idea that a goal does not have to be preceded by 87 pinpoint passes; route one has its place, even at Camp Nou. The 7-0 aggregate hammering Barca suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich in last season's Champions League semifinals had already suggested that the "Plan B" mooted by Guardiola during his tenure was in need of dusting off. The Bavarian side is hardly touchy-feely with the ball, after all. Hands were wrung and teeth were gnashed in Catalonia when Rayo won the moral victory of enjoying more possession than its opponent, which the stattos were quick to point out had not occurred since Real beat them in a 2008 Clasico. The fact that Rayo still shipped four without reply at home was lost amid the self-flagellation.

Since his arrival in Madrid, Ancelotti has been working along completely opposite lines. Jose Mourinho's legacy was a brutally efficient counterattacking team that struggled to hold on to the ball and control the pace of games. Ancelotti's Serie A career took in a different panorama, from the evolution of Catenaccio in the 1970s to the lethargic pace of the Italian game in the 1980s and 90s. At Madrid, he has tried to encourage his players to break when a break is on, but also to cover more efficiently and to slow things down when required.

This was largely achieved against Ancelotti's former side Juventus on Wednesday. Instead of chasing the game when 2-1 and a man up, Real instead aimed to keep possession. As Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger lamented after his team lost to a late Borussia Dortmund goal this week: "We lost the game because we maybe wanted so much to win it. We forgot that if you cannot win it, don't lose it." Real, although a goal to the good, made no such mistakes.

To a certain extent, Martino and Ancelotti are trying to impose the finer qualities of the eternal rival onto their own sides. Neither has succeeded fully yet, but the signs point to a very open and balanced Clasico indeed.

On the field, the focus will be on the starting line-ups that file out of the tunnel on Saturday. Apparently Karim Benzema is to be dropped, but not for Alvaro Morata. Gareth Bale is expected to start, but where? Ancelotti is quoted in AS as saying the Welshman is happy playing on the right, "and when he plays, that is where he will play." Could Angel di Maria, alongside Ronaldo -- Real's most in-form player -- then be shifted to the left, with the Portuguese in the central role he is gliding into more and more frequently? That would certainly give Barcelona's backline something to think about.

Gerard Pique is a doubt and Carles Puyol, who will be in the squad at least, returned only last week from a seven-month layoff. That leaves a potential centre-back pairing of Javier Mascherano, who admitted he makes too many mistakes in the position after a gaffe in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Milan, and Marc Bartra, who has made a total of 29 appearances for the first team in five seasons. Adriano can tuck into central defence but with Jordi Alba injured that would leave no recognised left-back. Alex Song can do a job in the middle of the last line of resistance, but that is hardly a happy prospect for Cules considering the firepower Real can assemble.

Ancelotti has the opposite problem. Too many of his players are now available for necessity to govern the luxury of choice, and options abound: Xabi Alonso is back in full training; Bale is finally ready to be unleashed; Isco and Luka Modric are vying for the right to remain in the first XI when Alonso returns alongside Sami Khedira; Alvaro Morata is improving by the game; and Dani Carvajal has been a constant threat to Alvaro Arbeloa since returning from the Bundesliga.

It's a headache, but one that Ancelotti should welcome. All the parts are finally coming together. All he has to do is figure out where to put them. With Real now just three points off the Liga pace, Saturday would be a good time for everything to click.

President to fulfill campaign promises

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday renewed his commitment to fulfill all his 2012 campaign promises before the 2016 general election.

He therefore called on Ghanaians to exercise restraint and support the government to achieve those goals for the betterment of the entire nation by playing their respective roles responsibly.

President Mahama renewed the commitment when he inspected the 200-acre land in the Odupong traditional area that has been released for the construction of a Community Day Senior High School (SHS) in the Awutu-Senya East Municipal Assembly.

During his 2012 campaign, President Mahama promised to establish 200 new Community Senior High Schools in selected districts in the country.

Out of the number, 50 schools would be built in selected deprived communities in selected districts throughout the country every year.

The first phase of the schools would be made up of 24- classroom block each, four science laboratories, libraries, eight offices for Heads of Departments, ICT laboratories, Headmaster's bungalows and a block of staff flats for eight tutors.

President Mahama stated that about 47 per cent of Junior High Students had over the years failed to gain admission for further studies on account of inadequate access to secondary education, hence his resolve to increase the number of high schools throughout the country.

He appealed to the beneficiary communities to reciprocate that gesture by willingly releasing land and other facilities for the execution of development projects in their areas of jurisdiction.

President Mahama appealed to his critics to make constructive criticisms that would help his administration to take the right steps towards the execution of development projects.

The President said government had just began its development agenda and hoped that by the end of the four-year mandate all the campaign promises would be fulfilled, a situation he said, would convince Ghanaians to return his administration to power.

Nai Odupong Awushie Tetteh II, Paramount Chief of Ofaakor, near Kasoa, commended President Mahama for fulfilling the promise to establish a public SHS in the municipality.

He said he was particularly delighted on account of his profession as a teacher, coupled with the fact that the whole area was without any public Second Cycle institution.

"I am so happy that President Mahama has walked the talk and I now want to believe that he will fulfill all other promises he made during the 2012 general elections campaign," he added.

Mr Samuel Sarpong, Central Regional Minister, gave the assurance that government would continue to galvanise the support of all development partners to provide basic amenities for Ghanaians, irrespective of their geographical location.
