A GANG OF four armed robbers who allegedly forcibly had anal and vaginal sex with a married woman, after robbing her of valuables worth thousands of cedis at her Oyarifa residence near Adenta, Accra, are in the dock for robbery-related offences.
The accused persons, Usif Abdulraman, labourer, Abdulai Aliu, trader, Agyemang Badu, unemployed, and Kwasi Tawiah aka taller, driver, allegedly on a robbery expedition, went to the house of the victim at about 2:30am and succeeded in robbing her of items including six mobile phones, wax prints, wedding ring, perfumes, and cash of GH¢400.00.
In addition, the accused persons allegedly subjected the victim to inhumane treatment by raping her in turns through her anus and vagina.
They however pleaded not guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and rape when they appeared before an Accra Circuit court presided over by Eric Kyei Baffuor.
The court remanded them into police custody to re-appear on October 21, 2011.
Presenting the facts, ASP Reindorf Agyemang indicated that the complainant resided at Oyarifa with her family, while the accused persons resided at various locations in Accra.
He narrated that on August 7, 2011, at about 2:30am whilst the complainant and her family were fast asleep, the accused persons and their accomplices, Demio, Noah and Papa, currently on the run, armed with guns, sticks, hacksaw blade and a big crowbar, besieged her house.
They allegedly forced the glass door leading to the living room open with the crowbar and at gunpoint ransacked every room in the five bed-room self-contained house.
The accused persons, he disclosed, succeeded in robbing the complainant of her six mobile phones, wax prints, wedding ring, sony digital camera, ignition key to her Honda CRV 4X4 car and cash of GH¢400.00, after which they raped her in turns through the vagina and anus.
The following day, at about 7:20am, the complainant reported the matter to the Adenta Police.
According to the prosecutor, on September 8, 2011, the police had a tip off that one of the accused persons, Agyemang Badu, was part of a group of armed robbers who had been robbing and raping innocent citizens at Oyarifa, Adenta and its environs.
Based on the information, he was arrested and during interrogation allegedly admitted to the offence. The police, during a search at his Glife residence, retrieved a pump action gun.
Badu, according to ASP Agyemang, led the police to arrest the other accused persons from their hide-outs. Kwasi Tawiah was identified by the complainant as one of suspects who robbed her house. In their caution statements, they allegedly admitted to the offences and mentioned Demio, Noah and Papa as their accomplices.
