Ardent listeners of Okay FM’s “Adeakye Abia”
Morning Show were on Saturday morning treated to an unusual spectacle
on radio as two honorable gentlemen, one a legislator and the other a
Deputy Minister, engaged each other in an expletive laced exchange which
could easily have ended up in fisticuffs if the 101.7 frequency was a boxing arena.
The
two public officials, the NPP Member of Parliament for Assin North
constituency, Kennedy Agyapong and Deputy Minister of Information, Baba
Jamal, threw all proprietary to the wind and hurled scathing insults on
each other.
The drama unfolded when Kennedy Agyapong who was
commenting on the issue of false prophets and the constant spell of doom
from some of these prophets, accused President Mills of being partly
responsible for the influx of doomsayers in the country.
According
to him, some false prophets approached him to set up a meeting with the
NPPs flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo so they could pray and break a curse
placed on him (Nana Addo) by the renowned Prophet T.B Joshua. The NPP MP
alleged that President Mills later hosted the prophets at the Peduase
Lodge after he (Ken) drove them away.
To him, President Mills’
association with some of these false prophets has encouraged more people
to indulge in fraudulent acts in the name of God.
Whiles
accusing the NDC of being thieves, the Assin North MP also indicted the
Mills’ administration of worsening the plight of Ghanaians so much so
that parents are finding it difficult to pay for their wards’ school
fees.
The Deputy Minister of Information, unhappy with the NPP
MP’s remarks, sought to make an intervention. But even as the host of
the show, Kwame Nkrumah “Tikese” was in the process of informing
listeners that Baba Jamal was on the line to react to the false
impressions put out by the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong could be
heard in the background screaming; “tell Baba Jamal not to come
on-air…otherwise I’ll expose him.”
Baba Jamal replied, “go ahead
and expose me…what is there about me that you intend to expose? You make
irresponsible statements and spurious allegations on-air and when I
call in to react, you go on about exposure.”
The CEO of Kencity Media did not take it kindly to the Deputy Minister’s reply and thus began the hot verbal exchange.
Kennedy
Agyapong then warned the NDC former Deputy General Secretary not to
dare bring himself because he (Ken) gave him (Baba) money to marry and
once rescued him (Baba) from disgrace when he got ensnarled in a visa
fraud.
“…you came begging like a sick dog in Parliament asking
for money to go and marry and I was the same person who rescued you when
you got involved in a visa fraud, and today because you have been given
a deputy ministerial position, you can challenge me on radio?”
But Baba Jamal stridently denied ever taking money from Kennedy Agyapong, describing him as a big liar.
“…You
cannot lie against me…you never gave me any money and I never got
involved in any visa fraud… Do you know when and where I got married?
Today I will let everybody know what a big liar you are…you cannot lie
against me…You are not in your right frame of mind (Wonye correct)…it is
very sad that people like you can also come on radio and talk. If Ghana
was a serious country, we wouldn’t allow someone like you to talk on
radio…if this was to be some other country; someone like you would never
be allowed to speak on-air,” he said. |

Baba Jamal further slammed Ken
Agyapong for being a braggart and always hiding away from intellectual
debates by claiming he helped someone financially.
“You are
always showing off…it’s because you have no ideas, you hide behind your
big talk to hide away from intellectual debates. You are not somebody to
be taken serious because you talk anyhow. When I got married seven
years where were you?…When we are debating ideas, you are talking about
giving me money…You’ve lied blatantly on radio and when I want to put
you right, you then claim to have given me money…You act as if you are
the only person who is of sound financial standing in this country? I
have now realized that you lack ideas, you cannot stand debates; this is
a mark of a confuse person. You are just a braggart…you love singing
you own praises… you know I’m not scared of you…just bring it on if you
are a man…when you were accused of being a cocaine dealer did you have
the guts to deny? You’re the number fraudster…any modicum of respect I
have for you is gone…,” the deputy minister said.
The verbal spat
went overdrive as the NPP MP also sarcastically shot back; “then the
money I gave to you to marry was part of the proceeds from the sale of
the cocaine (you claim in deal in)…now you’ve been offered the position
of a deputy minister so you can claim I’ve a foul-mouth…I don’t have
respect for you…I don’t need your respect…Listen, if you claim I’m
making baseless allegations against you, I’m driving to Cape Coast, God
should let me be involved in an accident…You (Baba Jamal) are describing
me as a sick person? Foolish man like you…Stupid, you were lapping at
my feet like a puppy…Since you became a deputy minister, what sensible
thing have you ever said?...Because you’ve used your position as dep
minister to amass wealth, you’re talking to me in this manner. You’re a
thief!” Kennedy Agyapong said.
And for well over 25minutes, the
altercation and the battle of vituperative continued unabated with the
two gentlemen literary at each other’s throat, whiles the host’s call
for a cessation to the verbal hostilities went unnoticed or simply
ignored.
However, after a couple of minutes of the hot exchanges,
Baba Jamal, in his closing remarks, apologized to listeners for any
offensive word he might have used, but his “sparring partner” Kennedy
Agyapong, when asked for his final comments, simply reiterated his
earlier submission that the Mills’ administration has worsened the
plight of Ghanaians.
“First of all, I want to apologise to your
loyal listeners…if in the course of this interaction I used any
insulting language or did say anything bad, I crave the indulgence of
your listeners to forgive me…. Ken Agyapong is trying to run roughshod
over others, he thinks we’re scared of him…Just want Kennedy Agyapong to
know that we’re fed up with his constant show of machismo and that
there are also daring people in this country…We on this side will always
ensure that the truth and the rule of law reigns supreme,” the deputy
minister said.
