Leaked NDC letter: There is no cause for alarm – Mills

No cause for alarm: President Mills optimistic
The President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, has assured supporters and executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the party is not collapsing and victory come the 2012 elections is assured.

President Mills’ assurance follows a leaked strongly-worded letter from the NDC chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei summoning him to hold an emergency meeting to address “disintegrative factors” that could spell doom for the party ahead of the December elections.

Dr. Adjei revealed how he has been treated unfairly and comes under baseless criticisms over the past three years. He said in the letter that he has “reached the limit of his patience and tolerance” hence the need to meet party bigwigs to iron out issues.

A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday by a deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said President Mills acted swiftly upon receiving the letter and a meeting between the two was held.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Ablakwa said “it is surprising that the letter has been leaked with all kinds of speculations” coming up.

He said the two leaders agreed that it will be “amorphous” to immediately involve the founder of the NDC, JJ Rawlings, and other officials mentioned in the letter in their initial discussions, adding that it was agreed the issue will be discussed at a National Executive Committee meeting later in the year.

Below is the full statement

PRESIDENT RESPONDS TO LEAKED NDC CHAIRMAN’S LETTER
The attention of President John Evans Atta Mills has been drawn to media reports about a letter addressed to him and authored by NDC Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

The President wishes to state that upon receiving the letter on the 10th of January, 2012, he immediately thereafter met with the Chairman of the NDC for which issues raised in the said letter were discussed.

It is also important to note that the issues discussed had nothing to do with the ‘Woyome Affair’ as is being speculated by sections of the media.

It is not clear what the motive of whoever leaked this letter to the press is, but President Mills wishes to assure all Ghanaians especially members of the NDC that there is no cause for alarm and that as leader of the NDC he will continue to work in the best interest of our great nation and our dear party.
