Pastor Cobbina was charged with attempting to commit a crime contrary to section 18(1) of the Criminal Code of Act 29/60.
The complainant, Eze Rita, is a hairdresser who resides at Alajo.
Narrating the facts to the court presided over by Ali Baba Abature, the prosecuting officer, Inspector Akrofi Ansah, said on 17th February, 2012, Eze went for prayers with a friend at Nazareth Prayer Ministry at Sapeiman after she had discussed her problems with her friend.
During prayers, Pastor Cobbina disclosed to Eze that there was a revelation about her and that she needed special prayers and directions so she should meet him after the service, around 5:30pm.
Pastor Cobbina invited Eze into his room under the pretext of giving her divine direction to solve her problems.
Cobbina, knowing what he was up to, intentionally delayed Eze till 10:30pm when she could not get access to transportation to her house.
He started fondling and caressing her and demanded to have sex with her but she refused, asking him to stop because she was married.
Eze’s friend, after waiting for her for some time, started calling her on phone to find out what was keeping her but Cobbina seized her phone and switched it off.
He then called Eze’s friend, who is a witness in the case, and informed her that she had left for home.
In a bid to satisfy his libido, Cobbina dragged Eze on the ground when she attempted to run away.
He sprinkled some concoction on her face and threatened her that if she refused to have sex with him, she would die after 3 days, after which he tore her dress.
Around 4:30 am, Cobbina, realizing that he could not succeed, opened the door and allowed Eze to go.
Eze lodged a complaint at the Tesano Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and Cobbina was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted that he demanded sex from the complainant.
